Peptide Research: A Starting Point

Peptide research can feel like a wall of names and numbers. A useful first step is to slow down and separate three questions: what is the substance, what does the evidence show, and what do the measurements mean?

Begin with identity

Peptides are chains of amino acids. But a website or product catalog may group peptides with other kinds of compounds. Treat a category label as navigation, not chemical verification. The name, formulation and source all matter.

For medicines, use the exact product name and its current prescribing information. A familiar active-ingredient name does not mean an online vial is equivalent to an approved product.

Separate three different kinds of information

  1. A description tells you what something is called or how it is categorized.
  2. A research finding reports what happened under a study’s particular conditions.
  3. A treatment recommendation requires an assessment of the specific product, evidence and person.

A page can explain the first two without being able to provide the third. This site focuses on research literacy and calculations.

Understand the four measurement labels

mg and mcg measure mass. mL measures volume. mg/mL describes concentration. A syringe scale adds another label, but does not replace any of these quantities.

Keeping the units attached to every number is more useful than memorizing a conversion table without knowing its inputs.

Choose your next step

For a personal treatment question, bring the exact product label to a licensed clinician or pharmacist. A general website cannot establish an appropriate regimen for you.
